This picture was taken in Toronto, Canada, during my time as an International Experience Program student in 2024. Visiting Toronto City Hall with my friends after classes at Laurentian University was a proud and unforgettable moment for me. As an engineering student from India, standing there reminded me how education and hard work can create global opportunities. The trip gave me confidence, independence, and lifelong memories. This place will always remind me of my journey, friendships, cultural experiences, and dreams for the future.

This place, specifically, is not as important in general terms, but I have celebrated many regional festivals here like Navratri and Holi with my family, which makes this place very significant for me. I visited it last for my cousin sister's wedding. It was a very emotional moment as I had many memories with her. Unfortunately, from now on, I might not be able to visit this party plot for any gathering, as I am coming to Lakehead University for MSc in Computer Science this September.

The VNF (Vadodara Navratri Festival) Garba Ground Vadodara, India
VNF (Vadodara Navratri Festival) Garba Ground is special to me because it represents joy, culture, and togetherness. The Garba venue is widely known for hosting one of the largest and most vibrant Navratri celebrations in India. Every year during Navratri, this place comes alive with music, lights, and traditional outfits. Every year, I was really excited for this festival because I love to wear new clothes, kurtas, and traditional outfits and play Garba for more than 3–4 hours without feeling tired. One of my favorite memories here was dancing with my friends and family late into the night while surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere and festive spirit. The sound of the dhol (a drum or large drum), the colorful decorations, and the excitement in the crowd created a feeling I will never forget. This place reminds me of my roots, my culture, and the happiness of celebrating traditions with the people I care about.

Jabel Jais, Rasl Al Kahimah, United Arab Emirates
I stood on top of Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the UAE, with tears in my eyes. To others, it was just a photo at a summit. To me, it was proof that I fought my way back to life. Not long ago, I weighed 125 kg. I was obese, borderline high blood pressure, and pre-diabetic. The day I saw my medical reports, I made a promise to myself that I would change. I would lose the weight, reclaim my health, and celebrate by climbing Jebel Jais. The next six months tested me with painful workouts, cravings, exhaustion, and moments of self-doubt. But slowly, I changed. By the time this picture was taken, I had lost 30 kg. Today, I weigh 93. I didn’t just climb a mountain. I rose above the person who thought he never could.

I'm standing right in front of the Santa Ana Cathedral in El Salvador, with a flock of pigeons taking flight behind me. Both of my parents are from Santa Ana, and I vividly remember them bringing me here as a child to play with the pigeons and enjoy the artisanal Salvadoran ice cream sold right at the entrance. I moved to the capital many years ago, but coming back to take this photo and seeing children still playing in the cathedral’s atrium, just like I used to, truly warms my heart. I see a reflection of myself in these kids, and I hope they can achieve their dreams too, just like I'm doing now.

Makoko Community, Lagos, Nigeria
This is Makoko, a community in Lagos, Nigeria, where survival often comes before ambition. I live in close proximity, and in places like this, to dream is expensive. Many children learn to fend for themselves long before they discover who they want to become. When your environment constantly reflects limitations, hope begins to feel like a luxury. Despite those realities, I found the courage to dream and push forward against the odds. I refused to let my beginnings define my future. This moment is more than a personal achievement; it is proof that our circumstances do not disqualify us from greatness. Great things can come from small places. Thank you to Lakehead University for helping make this dream possible. “The job’s not finished yet” (Kobe Bryant, 2009). There is still so much fire in me.

Icheri Sheher Metro Station in Azerbaijan and the entrance to the Old City
I grew up right there, behind those walls. After my mother moved abroad for a better life, I was 12 and I was depressed. I would sit in the arches of the fortress walls after school, looking out and dreaming of a perfect future. I also looked after my younger brother and walked him to school nearby. I used to buy him pens and cookies with my lunch money. Nowadays he tells me how much those small gifts meant to him and he remembers my love and care. Later on, my father took my brother and left the city, leaving me behind. My small world in the Old City, where I had found so much peace despite the struggle, felt so far away. Now, as an adult, I come here to meditate and find peace. Touching these stones and looking out from the top of the walls makes me feel proud of the woman I’ve become.

As the earliest and largest seven-story square brick pagoda of the Tang Dynasty still in existence, it has become one of Xi'an's most iconic ancient landmarks. From 2013 to the present, I completed my undergraduate studies in Xi'an and have since settled here with a stable job and life. This deprived community of Bobokete is meaningful to me because children in the community walk over 5 km to school; sometimes, the children feel reluctant to go to school because of the distance. I have been able to sensitize all the children in this deprived community to take their education seriously since it is their key to success irrespective of the distance. I have been going to this community to monitor and check out whether these kids are going to school or not. I have also taken the opportunity to sensitize every parent in the community as well, to take their children's education seriously. Farming is the only source of livelihood in the community. These children will become prominent people in future. So I think I have made an impact in these children's lives.

This picture was taken on the day of my graduation, after I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. It captures a special moment of me. This memory means a lot because it represents the culmination of four years of hard work, dedication, and everything I invested during that period. It also reflects the strong support of my family, especially my dad, who has been the main provider for us. I remember we had a small family gathering at the ceremony, taking pictures together to preserve the moment. Interestingly, this is one of my parent's favorite photo, it captures their first child in one frame. They love it so much that it is now framed and displayed at home.

University of the Philippines (UP) is more than just a university to me. It’s where I first learned what it means to love my country, where I encountered my faith, where I met lifelong friends, and where my perspective on life was changed. Back then days were simple - we shared meals on the grass, played guitar, and sang songs until dusk. Studying here wasn’t always easy but UP will always be home. On weekends, the grounds fill with people on picnic mats and joggers trace familiar paths at night. It remains one of the few open spaces in my city where anyone can simply come. Manila’s urban plan is not blessed with parks; hence, amid the city’s hustle, this place feels like a sanctuary in the middle of chaos. I’ve come to truly understand a line from the UP anthem: "Though we wander to distant lands, the heart remains unchanged. Unchanged, it stays."

Taj Mahal, India
Standing before the Taj Mahal, I wasn’t just admiring its beauty, I was confronting my own unfinished story. The sky above was dark and uncertain, much like the phases I’ve gone through, where the path ahead felt unclear and the pressure felt heavy. Yet, right behind me stood something timeless, built not in comfort but through years of patience, sacrifice, and unwavering vision. In that contrast, I saw myself someone still in the process, still shaping purpose through struggle, still learning that real growth is never loud, but always consistent. What inspired me most was not just the story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, but what it represents beyond it, the power of the human spirit to turn emotion into legacy. That moment became personal. It made me reflect on the silent efforts I put in every day, the discipline no one sees, and the belief I hold even when results aren’t immediate. This image captures more than a visit, It captures a mindset. A decision to stay grounded, to trust my journey, and to keep building with passion. Because just like the Taj Mahal, anything created with true dedication and spirit has the power to become something lasting, something greater than time itself.

This is the day my husband came to pay my bridal price, and take me with him. From here, he started our journey to Canada. That day began with the soft hum of our Igbo Nigeria tradition and ended with the quiet realization that I was being honoured in the most profound way. The air was thick with the scent of woodsmoke and anticipation as our two families gathered—not as strangers negotiating a deal, but as two worlds finally merging into one. The sweetest moment wasn't when the items were accepted, but when our eyes met amidst the chaos of the celebration. In that look, there was no talk of "buying" or "owning"—only the promise of partnership. He wasn't just fulfilling a cultural requirement; he was choosing me, proudly and publicly, in front of everyone who mattered to us.

Safari Eco Park in Ghana
On this day I experienced both fear and courage to stand before this beautiful creature of nature. My soul would have left me if I met this animal anywhere alone. My joy was that I stood so close to it and fed it from my arms. Its eyes were filled with love and beauty: the connection was unimaginable. But few question came to my thoughts and I asked "where are all these beautiful creatures that we hear and read about in books, what happened to them and who drove them away from from humanity, can we bring all of them back too join us live together in harmony? Birds fed from my palm and flew all around me without fear. This visit to the Safari Eco Park changed my perspective about life and beauty in Nature. We can do better for our environment to be preserved for the unborn generations.

One of the ancient pagodas dating back to the Bagan era (around 9th century), Myanmar
This trip is the first time visit Bagan-visit with my boyfriend and we had wonderful memories. When we arrived there, it was a beautiful warm evening and the wind was balmy and calm. We went inside the pagoda, held each other’s hands while gazing upon over thousand-year-old art drawings on the walls and took a stroll on the grounds of pagoda. Amber tropical sunset, refreshing scent of tamarind tree, weary aerial travellers flying back to the quiet sanctuary of their nests, sun-drenched velvety sand under the soles of my feet. Altogether it was kind of monachopsis, and also that fraction of moment stamped an eternal, uneraseable mark on my soul. Ancient Bagan is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Myanmar and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site on July 2019. The pagodas in Bagan are famous for their unique, majestic and breathtaking architecture and wall paintings, and last but not least, their rich culture and history. The most suitable time to travel there is late winter (December to February) and one of the must-do things is to watch amber rays of sunset dancing on the antique bodies of thousands of pagodas either from the top viewpoint of Dhammayan Gee Pagoda or the hot-air ballon. That scene will forever be engraved on your mind.

It’s where my friends and I wait for each other, leaning against our bikes and just talking about our day. It’s the place where the stress of the week starts to disappear. Right next to us is 9 Number Park. The moment I walk inside, I feel like I’m travelling back in time. All the pressure of being an adult goes away. I am not thinking about my career or my plans, I am just focused on the football at my feet. I can still hear my friends shouting, "Pass the ball," and I can still feel the dirt on my shoes. We played so many games there, laughed so much, and shared so many stories.

Sula Muni Pagoda Viewpoint, overlooking Taunggyi's mountains and greenery, Shan State, Myanmar
This place is woven into my identity. Taunggyi, my birthplace, is where my roots, memories, and sense of purpose began. Wearing traditional Shan clothing in this photo is my way of honoring the culture and heritage that shaped me and carrying a piece of home wherever I go. Returning here during the summer to volunteer in a Free Education Program for children who could not afford schooling made this experience even more meaningful. In their curiosity, resilience, and hopes for the future, I saw reflections of my younger self. Against Taunggyi’s mountains, I was reminded that education can expand horizons beyond what we can see. This place, with its beauty, culture, and people, continues to inspire my commitment to creating opportunities for others and uplifting communities.

The Corniche (seaside promenade) in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, along the Arabian Gulf coast near the Bahrain border
This picture is from my first family trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We had planned a pilgrimage journey but everything happened last minute, and on the way we had a layover in Dammam. Due to a flight delay we missed our connection, which initially felt stressful and worrying. Luckily, my aunt lives in Dammam and she came to help us immediately. We stayed an extra day and explored Dammam and Al Khobar, even driving to Bahrain through the King Fahd Causeway. The Corniche (seaside promenade) in Al Khobar is a well-known waterfront area close to the King Fahd Causeway region that connects Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The rocky shoreline, calm sea, and long lit-up walkway in the background match the Khobar Corniche area. What started as tension turned into one of our most beautiful memories. The calm coastline, clear blue sea, and peaceful atmosphere of Al Khobar made us forget all stress. Being there with my family in such an unplanned way made it even more special. It reminds me that sometimes unexpected moments become the best memories.

A converted prairie lawn I established at my childhood house in Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA
Home to me means interconnection with a place. We have responsibility towards not just one another but to the land we live on, the grander ecological community that we exist in reciprocity with. My home was managed as prairie and oak savanna before colonization. Little of it remains. It takes large, collective efforts to truly protect and restore these critical habitats, but even as individuals, we have roles to play in the planting seeds for the generations that will come after us. This patch of prairie is one such effort. Every summer I get to see the prairie flowers and grasses spread further, watch our native bees take advantage of their preferred nectar sources and nesting sites, and know that this is one of many small safe harbors bolstering my home against an uncertain future.

It is similar to how I never imagined that one day I would study for an MBA at an international university like Lakehead University. However, I kept pushing myself and worked tirelessly. I gave up two years of working life and many enjoyable activities. I sacrificed everything to focus on my education. And now, as you know, this September I will begin my MBA program at Lakehead. This photo was taken on my last day teaching at Northern Quezon College in Infanta, after ten years in that small classroom. Look for me in it. You will not find me easily — I am somewhere behind the laughter, the peace signs, the hands shaped into hearts. But this is my face. Those joyful faces are the face of a teacher. Every smile here is a lesson that landed, a quiet child who finally opened up, a morning that began heavy and ended in laughter. Because the face of a teacher is never the one in the front. It is all the faces she has loved. That day, we were all saying goodbye — and somewhere in that laughter, I was holding back tears.

Sometimes we grow up so busy chasing life that we forget the woman who silently gave us everything. This Mother’s Day I wanted to spend time with the person who has been my safest place since day one. So I surprised my mother with a small outing and dinner. Walking beside her through those artistic pathways felt emotional. The place is built with broken pieces transformed into something beautiful which somehow reminds me of mothers. For years she has been my safe place, my strength, and the person who stood behind every version of me. So for one evening, I just wanted her to feel special. Honestly among all the beautiful things at rock garden, her smile was still my favourite view.

Our family house in my home village, Jambanjelly, West Coast Region in The Gambia
This photo reminds me of what education can earn you in life. I was born inside this house when it was just a small hut initially. My dad and mum were both farmers living from hand to mouth. My parents managed to live in this hut together with my sisters and a brother. My siblings were refused to go to school because my parents saw no interest in western education at the time - they were truly conservative. When I grew up and reached the school going age, God intervened for me. I was lucky to be the only child of my family to go to school. I studied hard and eventually ended up in university. After university, I got a job and then built a very magnificent house for my parents and family. Anytime I visit home, I reflect on my childhood days in the hut. Education is the key to success.

Sikles Village Viewpoint
This place is one of the most serene, naturally blessed symbols representing hope for better future. This photo was clicked when I went for the Kapuche trek. This location exemplifies how life beyond the cities is. The serenity, the natural healing power of this place, the Annapurna peak on the background (a symbol of toughness) signifies what I actually want in my life. This was my very first trek and the first time I kept my busy schedule away. I felt the significance of life there, it shaped me and taught me how we can be happy with things we possess. The struggle of people living there, the toughness and different concept of living a life amongst the people of Sikles, as compared to what I had, taught me to be real and appreciate what I have in my life. This place significantly changed my view on luxury and sophisticated life. "I was a boy when I went on the trek and returned as a man."

Kofar Mata Dye Pit Kano
Kano has been the heart of tie and dye in West Africa since 1498, and my family has been part of that story for as long as anyone can remember. No one can tell me exactly when we started. It goes back further than memory. What I do know is what it has done for us. This business put my parents through school, and their parents before them. It has fed us, clothed us, and held us together through everything. Whatever my family is today, tie and dye built it. Some of my clearest memories are of me and my cousins around the dye pits, making a mess, and calling it practice. It brought us together long before we knew the patterns, the patience, and the pride of watching something ordinary become something beautiful. Generations in and we are still dyeing, still building, still going strong.

People from different places visit the temple year‑round, and many people came during the New Year. The surroundings were alive with activity, as crowds in the background enjoyed the festivities, and the Nepali flag added a sense of pride and joy to the atmosphere. The area is surrounded by green hills and beautiful reflections of white mountains on the lake, creating a peaceful and refreshing environment. If I had to describe summers in Lima in one word: UNFORGETTABLE. This specific spot takes me back in time. I’ve made so many beautiful memories growing up in Lima, especially during the summer. From waking up on the weekends with the sound of my friends knocking on my door to tell me they were going down to Barranco beach to play, to having bonfires with my family at sunset and staying at the beach till midnight dancing to my grandparents’ favorite salsa music. The food in Lima is just amazing, and seafood is often eaten more during the summer. Nairobi, Kenya at the United States International University-Africa (USIU)
This picture was taken during my graduation ceremony from the United States International University-Africa, in front of the school's library which acted as the graduation square. It was a very instrumental moment for my family and me. The day was filled with positivity and celebration of a journey that seemed impossible when it started. I believed in myself so much throughout my undergraduate studies, and at the end of it all, the fruits melted our hearts with joy. United States International University-Africa (USIU) motto is "Education to Take you Places". Throughout my undergraduate studies, I got the opportunity to interact with students from over 70 countries. It shaped how I did things as well as provided diverse learning outcomes. I was raised by a single mother who later moved abroad for greener pastures. My education journey was not an easy one and being able to study in one of the best universities in Kenya was such a blessing to me in all aspects. My mother worked hard and ensured. Not only did I get the best, but my siblings did also. Participating in events such as the Africa Model United Nations as an International Relations Major taught me so much during my undergraduate studies. I am forever grateful for my experience at the USIU-Africa.

Resilience isn't always found in a classroom; sometimes, it's found in a Trotro (local transportation) during a downpour. On our way to lead an educational workshop in Dadease, our vehicle broke down amidst heavy rains. Refusing to let the weather or logistics stop us, we hopped onto local transport to ensure our students weren't left waiting. This photo captures a moment of quiet determination in the middle of that journey—a reminder that the commitment to education far outweighs the obstacles on the road.

This is from a road trip a couple of months ago. I was roaming in the lanes of Jaisalmer which is the golden city of India. Each building carrying its own historical value with very sharp detailing all-over depicting the extraordinary architecture centuries ago. I connected with many locals plus even foreign tourists which turned out to be awesome. I could go there once a month for the rest of my life and never get bored of it. This image is the perfect depiction of myself where I could not stop looking at the beautiful buildings around me. Local cuisine over there, including ‘pyaaz kachori’ and ‘chole bhature,’ is one of the best I’ve ever had. Extremely memorable place.

Tilicho Lake Trail, Nepal
This picture was taken from the same region where my hometown is located. It is known as Tilicho Lake Trail, which consists "Lake Tilicho" - the highest lake in the world situated at 4,919 meters above sea level. The picture defines me and my journey to Tilicho Lake, where I went trekking with my friends. This trail tested me in ways I did not expect. At nearly -5°C, with strong winds hitting my face and hands freezing inside my gloves, every step felt heavier than the last. The trail was rough, silent, and exhausting, and for hours all I could think about was continuing forward without giving up. Around 6:30 in the morning, I reached this spot beneath the mountains just as the sunrise touched the snowy peaks. The cold suddenly felt smaller compared to the beauty in front of me. I stood there completely lost in the view, watching the golden light slowly paint the Himalayas. My friend noticed the way I was staring at the mountains and told me to pose exactly like that.

Holding the tail of an apex predator at the Paga crocodile pond, for me, is an expression of heritage. The true importance of this moment was my role as a cultural ambassador. I hosted colleagues from the Netherlands who were in Ghana for their data collection. Official advisories labeled the area a “Red Zone,” warning travellers of high risk. I led my friends into the heart of my hometown to show them the soul of the North that the headlines often miss. They even joined me in touching the crocodiles. This is a testament to the power of representation. When we lead with pride in our roots, we can bridge the world.

Raising my family through such hardship work and it strength and taught me that creating wealth is essential for survival. I learned the value of responsibility. This place, in the northern part of the country, is considered to be the biggest flower plantation of Bangladesh, from where the flowers would be distributed all over the flower markets of the northern and southern part of Bangladesh. The picture was shot when I was working in BRAC International in 2023. I had to visit the Jessore region to attend a government session on Early Childhood Development. Our team of three was supposed to conduct a rigorous session on ECD for seven days. It was winter time, and being away from family made us a little bit flustered, so we decided to visit the flower plantation area, which was only 10 KM away from our workstation. We, along with all our students (about 30 of them), visited the place. The enchanting view of the flowers made our day and it made our mood back for work again. The whole seven day tour was very pleasant for us. I was very honoured to be able to work with the government officials who work at the policy level. The whole team was very pleased to be able to attend, and my name was discussed at the policy level and throughout social media as a prominent ECD practitioner. I will always cherish my early days working with BRAC International. The capture was the small effort to cherish all the memories I have already left behind. BRAC International has given me the opportunity to work for the community and enjoy the beautiful scenic country I will always LOVE!

My parents, however, felt I was drifting away from my career path. They encouraged me not to neglect my field by serving in the tech role I had originally been posted to by the government. Since it aligned with my academic background, I took their advice - and it turned out to be the best decision I have made. I believed I had substantial knowledge of technology until I joined PCL as a Security Operation Center Analyst. That experience shaped me and accelerated my professional growth. At that age, I didn’t fully understand what made the place special, but I recall how it made me feel. There was something about the grass, the trees, and the quiet presence of nature that stayed with me long after that day ended. On my birthday this year, I visited with a close friend. We spent the day on the green grass, enjoying the quiet, the small lake, and the presence of nature. It was simple, yet meaningful. Agodi Gardens is more than a park to me. I experienced three of the happiest moments of my academic life: I successfully completed and defended my thesis after months of fieldwork, writing, revisions, and pressure; my final results were published, where I graduated First Class First with a CGPA of 3.95 and the highest scores in my department; and I was awarded the prestigious merit-based Chancellor Scholarship worth around 15,000 BDT (approximately 140 CAD). This place will always remind me that dedication and patience can turn dreams into reality.

Lakeside walkway beside the National Parliament Complex, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh
I first came here in 2006 as a teenager with big dreams. Over the next 19 years, I returned here with different companions at different stages of life: classmates during my two undergraduate studies, friends and colleagues during stressful career years, and later my wife and child after marriage and fatherhood. I spent countless afternoons here discussing studies, careers, technology, politics, and life with friends. Years later, I walked along the same lakeside helping my toddler learn how to walk. While my responsibilities, dreams, and circumstances constantly changed, this peaceful place remained familiar and comforting. To me, it is a living timeline of my growth, resilience, relationships, and continuing journey toward new opportunities and higher education.

Chowmahalla Palace, Hyderabad, India
Chowmahalla Palace feels less like a monument and more like a memory preserved in stone. The first time I walked through its gates, the noise of Hyderabad seemed to disappear. Sunlight spilled across marble floors, fountains whispered softly, and the chandeliers above the grand halls glowed with quiet elegance. Every corner carried the feeling of another era still alive within the city. What moves me most is how the palace remains calm while everything around it changes. In Hyderabad, a city of traffic and glass towers, that is forever reinventing itself, Chowmahalla reminds us that history is not distant. It lives through the places that continue to make us pause, reflect, and remember.

My family is my most important decision and my greatest driver; the dream of seeing Amelia grow up in an environment full of opportunities is what pushes me to work with dedication. This new academic chapter is a personal milestone not just for me, but for us as a family. This place is special to me because it represents the freedom, peace and unity of Ghana. Standing at the Independence Square while wearing my Lakehead University t-shirt reminds me of where I come from and the future I am working towards through education. It makes me proud of my community and inspires me to continue striving for success while remembering my roots. "Freedom is not given but rather earned", and Ghana’s independence was earned through the sacrifices and leadership of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and many great nationalists. On the 6th of March, 1957, Ghana gained independence from colonial rule. This was successful through hard work and determination. In conclusion, students shouldn’t see this photo as just a mere photo but rather a symbol of hard work and determination.

I went to the Locate festival in Karachi, Pakistan with my younger brother to celebrate the arrival of Eid. Being born and raised in Karachi, this photo is a testament to the liveliness in the hearts of Karchiites. The Locate festival is special because it brings people together to celebrate food, art, music, and culture, while also supporting small businesses and local artisans by giving them a platform to share their work. It reminds me how even in a busy city, there are spaces where people pause, connect, and celebrate life together. I still remember walking through the stalls with my younger brother (he bought me cute hand-made earrings), stopping to look at handmade items and listening to the music in the background. It has now become a core memory I will always cherish. As a pupil in this remote community, I sometimes went to school barefoot and with few writing materials, like other pupils. However, there was a memorable occasion when a public-spirited individual visited and gifted us valuable academic materials, and that singular act of kindness stuck with me. I decided that I must emulate that individual's kindness and ensure that the pupils who are schooling here don't share my experience. I love this city dearly, even though my feelings about it are complicated. My perception of it has shifted immensely since 2020 and continues to do so. We've been through a lot in the last six years, but something that has always grounded me is the community. Even when times are tough, Minneapolis residents continue to show their strength of character. They support one another and can often be seen finding joy and whimsy together in nature. This photo was taken during my very first days in Canada, when I had just arrived in Barrie. Everything felt new, unfamiliar, and honestly a little overwhelming. I remember walking through downtown, taking in the lights, the atmosphere, and the quiet energy of the city, wondering what this new chapter of my life would look like. Barrie is meaningful to me because it’s not just where I arrived it’s where I grew, struggled, adapted, and started feeling like I belong in Canada. It was the first place in Canada where I truly started building my life from scratch. I lived here for more than a year, and slowly it became my comfort zone. The lake, the cold weather, the familiar routes made me feel settled. It’s where I learned independence, adapted to a new country. One memory that stands out is when I had to leave Barrie for studies in Thunder Bay for Lakehead University. I remember feeling lowkey unhappy because I didn’t want to leave this city. At that same time, I found out that the Barrie STEM Hub was opening, which honestly made me really happy. I asked for a transfer, and the university was very supportive. We were like best friends and regularly went there to relax. But after the passing of my grandfather, I didn't go to Swayambhu for a long time. Slowly, however, as they say, time heals. I started going there to face my emotions and cherish the moments I had shared with him. It is a place I always return to, whether I am happy or sad. Ronald McDonald House in Surco
This photo was taken at the Ronald McDonald House in Surco. This "House" is in reality an organization which host families who must move from their homes for their child's medical treatment. I was a part of the volunteers at the time and we'd help keep the house in order and clean for the families. We also helped with other tasks, depending on what they needed that day. This is a special place for me, because it made me grow as a person. Most of the time I was trapped in my own bubble without noticing other people's struggles, but Ronald McDonald House made me expand my horizons and create new perspectives not only of life, but also of ideology and beliefs. I meet incredible people there, but most importantly I meet different kinds of people that did not share my reality and helped me see the world with different eyes. It made me conscious of the world. The House taught me a lot because the supervisor had me do all types of things, so that I started to question myself on what I am, and what type of person I wanted to be...it made me curious. Curious about myself and about other people, their beliefs, religion, and experiences. I don't want to exhaust my curiosity.

The Glades, Bromley High Street, London
This photo makes my heart leap with great joy. It was taken on the day I went for an amazing dinner in The Glades, Bromley High Street, with family and friends to celebrate my wedding anniversary. It is such a meaningful and wonderful photo to me because it captures more than just a day out; it holds the feeling of being grateful to have loving friends and of celebrating a milestone that means so much to me. I was thinking appreciatively about my spouse and family when a family member took this photo. Every time I look at it, I’m reminded of the love and connection I felt in that moment, making it a memory I’ll always treasure. I truly look forward to many more precious moments in my life as I start my classes at Lakehead University in the fall of 2026.

I'm sharing this photo for a special reason. I know we don't see my face or any particular landscape like a mountain or the sea or even a typical French thing. To sum up the context of this photo let me explain it... my girlfriend and I were in Carnac, a little city near to the south coast of Bretagne, for a weekend vacation. It was one of our first trips together. Now you might understand why I've choosen this picture. You only see me in the picture, but you don't see the better side of the phone. Indeed, if you could see the other side you will discover the best ray of sunshine you've ever seen in your life. There is nothing in this world that could make me feel the same way as my girlfriend. Her smile and her eyes are worth more than every landscapes to me.

Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur, Nepal
The historic Krishna Temple of Nepal lies in the heart of this area which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also holds a medieval royal palace where the ancient kings of Nepal resided. This place has witnessed some very important parts of my life. First of all, my primary level school (Lalitpur Secondary School) lies near this location. We would often visit this temple for educational field works. Furthermore, each of my friends live near Patan. Moreover, this is also where my partner and I had our first date. After middle school, I shifted 369 kms away from Kathmandu (to Biratnagar, Morang). It was very bittersweet and painful to part ways with my childhood and my people. So, every time I came back to visit Kathmandu, this is where my friends and I would gather. In this photo, too, I'm with two of my friends, at midnight, taking a break from the harshness of the world. We sang, danced, had ice cream and went home with hearts full of love and memories.

Over a decade after my friends and I left high school, our paths had not crossed again. Then came the unexpected call that changed everything. Suddenly, there we were, older but instantly familiar, gathered together once more, laughing like no time had passed and reliving the memories that first made us family. Sitting in the garden, surrounded by their faces and the warmth of that beautiful ambience, it felt like stepping into both the past and the future at once. In that moment, nostalgia wrapped around us, a quiet promise that this reunion was not just about remembering who we were, but about choosing to remain in each other’s lives moving forward. It was a celebration of friendship and of the beautiful new beginnings that can bloom even after many years apart.

This place holds a significant spot in my life. Whenever I get any leisure time from my busy and packed schedule, I always try to explore this beautiful place. It is surrounded by scenic beauty, and it always makes me feel refreshed from my sedentary lifestyle. This place is special to me because it's the final resting place of a selfless man who was the first president of Ghana. Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah died in exile in Romania in 1972 and his remains were moved to the Mausoleum in Accra. The structure is clad in Italian marble with the black star at the apex representing the African Unity. It is surrounded with water representing Life. This place is a BAPS Swaminarayan temple and it holds a very special place in my life. I have been going there since I was about 10 years old, so it has been part of my journey growing up. Every Thursday, there is a spiritual gathering where hundreds of people come together. During these sessions, saints share meaningful lessons about life, discipline and character. These teachings are not just theoretical - they have had a real impact on how I think and behave. I still remember how I used to be before I started going regularly. I was impatient and often careless in my actions. Over time, being in that environment changed me. Listening to the teachings and observing others helped me become calmer, more patient and more self-controlled. This temple shaped my character and continues guiding me.

Kaptai Lake Drive in Chattogram, Bangladesh
This is one of the most beautiful roads in the region, surrounded by the scenic beauty of rolling hills and the serene waters of Kaptai Lake. Kaptai Lake holds deep significance for this region. The lake was formed when a dam was built to generate hydroelectric power, a project that came at a great cost, as it submerged the heartland of the Indigenous Chakma community, including the palace of the ancient Chakma kingdom. Today, it thrives as a fishing and tourist hub, yet carries the weight of that history beneath its waters. My first visit here was with a close group of friends. That trip became one of my most cherished memories not just for the beauty of the place, but because one of those friends is no longer with us. It was the last journey we shared together before he passed away. Now, every time I return to Kaptai, his memory comes alive. I see the same hills, the same water, and I miss him deeply.

In April 2023, I finally got the chance to make it to Los Angeles, the world’s entertainment capital. It was a pinch-me moment and I was so overwhelmed. The experience bridged the gap between my dreams and reality. It represented hard work culminating in the chance to explore the landmarks I had admired from afar for so long.

My film classroom is special to me as it has seen me cry, laugh, dance, sleep (only with permission) and so much more. It's a place I feel safe, respected and heard in. In that very room, I read and put to life my first ever script, based on a friendship heartbreak I experienced, which I later on directed and scored. I am a true believer though, that what makes a place special, is the people you share it with. If it wasn't for Ms. Rosaura, that room would feel very different. She taught me how to continue to embrace my emotions and the sometimes out of reach dreams I've had. She showed me that they really aren't that far away and that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve anything. I hope everyone is able to find a place like my film class.

This photo was taken at Sursagar Lake in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It’s a very well-known spot in the city and easy to recognize if you’ve ever been there. Sursagar Lake feels very close to me because it’s one of those places where I can just be myself without any noise in my head. I still remember standing there one evening, watching the sun slowly go down behind the Shiva statue, and everything around me felt calm for a moment. The breeze was light, the water was quiet, and I didn’t feel any stress at all. For an ugly little mall, it was a very important, nostalgic location for us, and it was sad seeing it in such a desolate state with many many closed stores, dimmed lights, and the lowest customer turnout I had ever seen. Due to nationwide strike action by nurses in my country last year, I became an emergency care-giver to my Mother in-law who was hospitalized there since nursing services were suspended. The experience spurred a lot of emotions in me and also showed me how a little smile and care to those in pains go a long way to restore hope that was already lost. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," my mother used to say. Truth be told, there seemed to be nearly nothing beautiful about Laguna El Guayabal. The grass was pale, and the lagoon was dry. My family lives on the outskirts of Santa Rosa, 4 minutes away from the site. That means we had to drive beside it each day to get to the city. And every day, I watched the lagoon grow bleak. That was until Hurricane Iota hit. Afterwards, the grass became greener, and the lagoon nearly flooded the surrounding settlements, so much so that most drivers would avoid that road entirely, but not my family. We came home with muddy car doors and stained clothes, but also with a deep appreciation for the place's newfound beauty. El Guayabal is more than water; it's the aftermath of something powerful.

For me, this place holds a very personal meaning. I remember coming here during a time when I needed a break from studies, pressure, and constant routines. Standing by the water, watching the reflections and the stillness around me, I felt a sense of clarity and calm that I don’t usually find elsewhere. It’s one of those rare places where your mind slows down and your thoughts feel lighter.

This place is meaningful to me because it holds some of my best memories with my team. Every Thursday, we worked together on exercises and took turns writing on the board. In this moment, I was the one writing, while my friend Said Omar—now studying in Turkey—took this photo. We were about five students, fully committed to learning. Our teacher was very dedicated and made me love mathematics through his effort and support. We studied every Thursday and Friday, often from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM, only taking breaks for prayer. Even when school closed, he stayed with us and sometimes continued teaching in the mosque. His humility and dedication made this experience unforgettable and shaped my academic journey.

This location is special to me because I went there with my girlfriend, and it became one of my favourite memories. She was the one who took the photo, which makes it even more meaningful to me. It was also our first trip together, so I felt very happy and excited. I really like beach places, even though she does not like the beach that much. Still, she agreed to go with me and supported my choice, which made me appreciate her even more. That moment felt simple, peaceful, and special because we were spending time together in a beautiful place.

Olumo Rock Tourist Centre @ Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria
Olumo Rock is a mountain in south-western Nigeria and serves as history of the Egba people in the 19th century. The rock itself serves as protection for the Egba people during intertribal wars. I was told by the tourist guide that the Egba’s then do hide under the rock whenever they are running from dangers and according to him, despite how high the rock is (409ft above sea level), no one has ever fallen. Some traditional worshippers are living under the rock to date (I saw them myself). It’s a very nice place to be as it depicts lots of history. It was said that the city of Abeokuta today started from there. I would love to visit there again.

The Square of flags (Praça das Bandeiras) at the Universidade de Caxias do Sul.
Standing at the Square of Flags at the Universidade de Caxias do Sul brings me back to the moment my life changed. I still remember arriving here for the first time, unsure if I would belong. As a young Black woman from a low-income background, this place felt far from my reality. But here, I earned a full scholarship, joined my first research group, and discovered my passion for education. Every flag reminds me that the world is bigger than where I started. This place didn’t just give me an education, it gave me the courage to keep going and reach beyond what once felt impossible.

This photo was taken on the roof of my house.
This place means a lot to me because it's where my childhood memories were made - it was once my playground. Looking at it now fills me with nostalgia. The blue sky and mountain and the background remind me of how far I've come and the journey that shaped who I am today. I am looking forward for my new journey that lies ahead.

This spot always reminds me of the day I got promoted to the role of Performance Analyst in my department. My team members cheered me on and told me to take a photo to remember the moment. It is also a picture that reminds me of my dedication and perseverance of hard work in the quest of excellence.
